Falling squirrel, rising anxiety
A squirrel fell out of my maple tree.
She lay on the ground for a long moment, then climbed up the tree where she’d been in a circling chase with another squirrel. I’ll keep an extra close eye on my backyard for the next day, in case she shows up looking sickly.
This is the second time I’ve seen a squirrel in a chase fall out of the tree next to my garage.
I hope the squirrel is OK too

Luckily, they’ve all looked healthy.

poor squirrel, I’m sure she’ll be fine, they must be used to taking a tumble now and again…

One of my squirrel rehabilitator friends told me to keep an eye out because they may not feel the effects right away. But so far I’m only seeing healthy squirrels.

I’m sorry I am only seeing this now (July 9) and this squirrel fell late last month. I know they don’t fall often, but sometimes they do slip and trip. Still, it makes me wonder if there was an underlying cause for this loss of balance.
Nothing seemed broken, right? And the squirrel did get back up again?
My heart always stops when I see this.
So please, can you give an update? Does all still seem well, now that we’re into July?

Yes, everybody looks healthy. The two times I’ve seen squirrels fall, one has been chasing the other around the branches of my maple tree. Is there something about the chase that makes them fall?
Anyway, I monitor the back yard carefully after a fall. After sneaking to the back of the tree trunk, the squirrel appeared up the tree a minute or two later.
