The photo is priceless. But as I read this story I held my breath, hoping this compassionate “City Birder,” would also be a savvy “City Birder.” Apparently so. He rightly assumed that young squirrels don’t climb people unless they’re looking for help (i.e., their mom is gone). His attempt to re-release the squirrel did not succeed - thank goodness - and now the little one is in the care of a wildlife rehabilitator, where this little baby belongs. Again, thank goodness. It takes perseverance and love to do what City Birder did, and to see it through. The city has always seemed a cruel place for wildlife, from my perspective (I have been to Prospect Park and other parks in NYC), but now, after reading this, I think it seems a little kinder.
