Long corridors, dimmed lights,
janitors mopping the floors.
All the kids have gone home.
Or so I thought until
I saw your pale face
and bruised eyes.
Your tight lips spilled no clues.
I wondered what drove you to
pace our elementary school halls.
I like the simplicity of this, the questions it asks
