SQUAWK! What the SQUAWK is going on in my backyard?
This is Riri the squirrel. Early this morning I moseyed over to the patio to see if my humans had left nuts out for me. The male human is good at that. The female, not so good.
No nuts this morning. That’s okay. But around 8:00 this morning a bunch of guys showed up and started making lots of noise, carrying ladders, and running machines that blasted paint off the house. It’s not very conducive to peaceful foraging.
Even worse, my female human completely skipped her daily ritual of putting out nuts and a new ear of dried corn for me. Nor did she top off our water pans.
All in all, a disappointing day.
I am one of Riri’s humans, responding on Oct. 23. In my defense, I did not know the painters were starting yesterday. They were supposed to call to warn me.
Last night I put out two new ears of corn, scattered nuts in the safe zone near the Squirrel Palace, and refilled the water pans. I hope Riri and her friends will forgive me. Please.
What is wrong with your humans? Don’t they love u any more?
Look out for the ladders, RiRI

Ah completely understandable to have construction around the house disrupt squirrel feeding. Understandable, yes. Forgiveable? Hmmmm, not sure about that one. I always apologize if the feeding stations have to be moved - or if they are idle for the day. Contractors aren’t always agreeable to having little gray beggars at their feet soliciting handouts. However, when we find contractors who ARE welcoming of such efforts, they’re almost always guaranteed another job around this house, and many future assignments!
