Sunday Scribblings: Research on Paris
This week’s Sunday Scribblings assignment is to write about a topic you research. My Google search topic? “Paris top tourist sights.”
The first Google result linked to a book on Amazon. Not very helpful.
The next result was Cycling in Paris. That’s not very representative of Paris, but it suits my interests. Iggy and I try to bike wherever we go.
I moved on and found
Paris Top 10 Attractions
The must see sights of Paris
1. Eiffel Tower
2. Louvre
3. Arc de Triomphe
4. Notre Dame Cathedral
5. Avenue Champs-Elysees
6. Latin Quarter
7. Concorde Place
8. Rodin Museum
9. D’Orsay Museum
10. St.Chapelle & Conciergerie
I realized I saw nine out of 10 of these sights when I visited Paris in high school with my parents. I don’t know if the D’Orsay Museum existed back then.
Concierge.com’s list of things to do and see in Paris came next. I’ll have to print out this article because it listed less mainstream places to visit as well as some interesting classes to take.
Hey, thanks for your comment - i take it you meant that you’ll be in Paris in May 07, not May 06?..
Your top 10 list sounds very touristy, but I guess that’s what Paris is
You could easily do Place de la Concorde, Jardin du Tuilleries, Champs Elysee and Arc de Triumph in the space of an hour, because they’re all pretty much next to each other, or follow on from the other, example: start at the Tuilleries, very pretty gardens, they lead out to Place de la Concord, which has a magnificent Obelisk in the centre of the roundabout, and from there, walk down champs Elysee til you get to Arc de Triumph. I recommend that after you’ve climbed to the top for some awesome views and a peek at the museum inside, take the metro (which is right next to the arc de triumph) all the way to the end of Metro Line 1 - in the direction of “la defense” - there you will see the most bizarre and spectacular modern building - the Grand Arch - you can actually see it from the Arc de Triumph, but up close, it’s amazing. I also recommend you go to Montmartre and check out Place du Tertre, especially if you’re going to be there in May, because there’ll be tonnes of artists in the square and they can paint your portrait or sketch it, or you can just watch others painting, and then also don’t forget Sacre Coeur, which is also in Montemartre, you’ll get some spectacular views of Paris from there - Montemartre is the highest point in Paris. The D’Orsay is good, so is the Louvre (I like the Louvre better, but dont expect to see everything in one day, it’s literally impossible) - Musee Rodin is really nice, very low key museum, because its in his old house, but its so peaceful and his works are amazing, also, a handy tip, the first sunday of every month, all museums in Paris are free. If you like Bike Riding, hire a bike and spend half a day in the Jarden du Luxemburge, it’s so beautiful there. You will probably want to spend the whole day there - in fact, take a picnic!
